ARE PERLITE INSULATING CONCRETE ROOF DECKS WORTH THE MONEY??
The resounding answer is yes!! Perlite Insulating Concrete Roof Deck
Insulation offers the Architect, Contractor and Building Owner some major
advantages not seen with other types of roof deck insulation.
It offers the Architect peace of mind by
reassuring them that they have selected the most appropriate product for the
project. Perlite Insulating Concrete
offers many benefits over polyisocyanurate board insulation or glass fiber batt
insulation.
Ø
Perlite
Insulating Concrete provides thermal mass to moderate thermal shock of roofing
membranes. This greatly enhances
long-term membrane performance. Weights
are comparable.
Ø
The system
is not damaged by roof leaks and does not absorb and harbor water.
Ø
The system
is ideal for roofing over precast tees or Dycore panels. It provides custom slope-to-drain which is
not affected by positive or negative camber of precast panels and will
accommodate field dimension variations gracefully.
Ø
Perlite
Insulating Concrete greatly enhances indoor air quality by eliminating glass
fiber insulation and reducing spray-applied fireproofing requirements in
interstitial spaces and return air plenums.
It also eliminates air infiltration through roof system by sealing
corrugations in the metal deck.
Ø
ConDeck
Corporation's membership in the U.S. Green Building Council lets the Architect
and Building Owner rest assured that their best interests are being protected
and that the product choice is friendly to both indoor air quality and the environment.
Ø
Perlite
Insulating Concrete is a dual purpose product as it insulates and is integral
to 31 U.L. fire-rated assemblies.
To the Contractor Perlite Insulating
Concrete allows for project flexibility:
Ø
It
allows interior trades to start work immediately after installation by
effectively drying-in the Project.
Ø
The
Contractor can schedule the roofer as time and weather permit. This greatly relieves coordination issues
between the Contractor and the roofer, and allows the Contractor more scheduling
flexibility.
To the Building Owner, the system offers
long-term advantages:
Ø
Perlite
Insulating Concrete offers the Building Owner
a permanent roof
insulation system. R-value does not decrease with age.
Ø
The system
can be reroofed cost effectively. Old
roofing can be torn-off without damaging insulating roof deck. There is no need to tear-off roof
insulation, and there is less impact on the local landfill during reroofing
operation.
Ø
It is a
“life-of-the-building” product.
To all of the building team members it
offers unsurpassed economy, scheduling flexibility and long-term
performance. You will be astounded at the cost savings! One
way to add Perlite Insulating Concrete to your roof insulation specification
section is as a Contractor's Option, by
adding the following text:
"Contractor's Option: Contractor may
use Perlite Concrete Roof Deck Insulation in lieu of the type specified and
indicated. Install Perlite System in
accordance with Perlite Institute Catalog 31-95."
This way the onus will be on the General
Contractor to evaluate whether the system is viable and cost effective.
TAKE A LOOK FOR YOURSELF!
In July everyone was invited to "take
a look." Many design professionals
took us up on the offer. If you would
like to see a perlite insulating concrete roof deck being installed, give us a
call. We will be glad to make
arrangements for you to see the job first hand. Come get some fresh air and see what a quality installation looks
like. Touchy-Feely is really the best
way to evaluate any building system.
The more you know about how the system goes down, the better we look. All we ask is that proper construction site
attire be worn and that the safety procedures of the General Contractor be
abided by.
WHAT THE HECK IS ELASTIZELL ENGINEERED FILL?
Elastizell Engineered fill is lightweight
Cellular Concrete which is ideal for engineered backfill, sliplined pipe
projects or pipe abandonment projects.
Elastizell Fill is flowable and flows
like water to fill nooks and crannies completely, but requires only one fourth
the mix water of regular grout.
Millions of tiny air bubbles explain its flowability and light weight.
Elastizell will flow up to 800 feet in pipe abandoning or sliplined pipe
applications.
ConDeck Corporation is the certified
applicator for Elastizell products in New Mexico. Elastizell Engineered Fill is a perfect solution for engineering
projects where site fill materials are not acceptable, where time and expense
are an issue or where working quarters are tight and inaccessible to earth
moving and compaction equipment. Being
pumpable, staging areas are small; on-site storage is eliminated; and dust
control is not an issue. Elastizell
Engineered Fill is an excellent choice for conduit abandonment, slip-lined pipe
applications and for emergency backfill situations. Unlike structural concrete, Elastizell is fully excavatable.
