NEW DESIGN MANUAL

The ConDeck Corporation is pleased to announce the availability of its latest Perlite Product Design Manual.   The new Design Manual includes technical information for Perlite Insulating Concrete Roof Decks including Specifications in WordPerfect and MS Word formats, Perlite Loose-Fill Insulation, Perlite Utility Pipe Insulation and information on structural Tectum Products.  At ½ inches thick, this binder has a lot of great information and it will not take up too much space in your technical library.

REROOFING?

Flat roof with no way to drain it?  One great way to reduce our landfill congestion and to encapsulate hazardous materials is to pour Perlite Insulating Concrete over the existing roof.  The existing roof is cleaned of loose gravel and dirt, and a lightweight concrete deck is poured over it.  The new roof deck can be sloped to provide adequate roof drainage and the building's insulation can be augmented.  This is a very cost effective way to improve roof drainage, building insulation performance, encapsulate hazardous materials and to help reduce our waste stream.  The structural integrity of the existing structure shall be evaluated prior to installation.  Perlite Concrete weighs approximately 5.87 pounds per foot.

THINK GREEN

Perlite is a naturally occurring silicous rock, some of which is mined near Socorro, New Mexico.  When heated to approximately 1600 degrees F. Perlite expands from four to twenty times its original volume.  The expansion is due to the presence of 2 to 6 percent combined water in the crude perlite rock.  When quickly heated, the crude rock pops in a manner similar to popcorn as the combined water vaporizes and creates countless tiny bubbles which account for its light weight and other exceptional physical properties.  Perlite is a form of natural glass and it is classified as chemically inert with a pH of approximately 7.

The construction industry uses a lion's share of the world's resources requiring us to become stewards of the environment for the next millennium.

GREEN ANSWER: USE PERLITE

INDOOR AIR QUALITY

Perlite Insulating Concrete Roof Decks are a very inexpensive way to switch from using glass fiber batt insulation.  Glass fibers from batt insulation have been proven to be an indoor air quality issue.  When installed on the underside of roof decks in a return-air plenum configuration without vinyl facing, the glass fibers will erode and travel to the mechanical equipment.  The glass fibers are small enough to make it through the air filter/fan/HVAC assembly becoming airborne and easily inhaled.  Vinyl facing has proven to be an installation problem (read: nightmare) and a maintenance issue.  The seaming tape has not been perfected to the point of long-term reliability.  Once the seaming tape fails, the glass fibers are liberated and can flow throughout the facility.  When designing for improved indoor air quality, the best way is to eliminate hazardous materials and replace them with materials and methods that have been proven to be stable, inert and environmentally efficient.

ELASTIZELL ENGINEERED FILL

ConDeck Corporation is also an approved applicator for Elastizell Corporation of America products.  One of Elastizell's specialties is Engineered Fill.  This type of Engineered Fill is very predictable and is usually cheaper than site engineered mixtures and is easier and faster to install.  For more information on weight reducing fills, bridge approach fills, roadway fills, void fills, foundation fills and pressure reducing fills, please contact  Ernie Casias   at   ConDeck  Corporation, 837-1112, today for more details and product literature.

TECTUM

ConDeck Corporation is the local distributor for structural Tectum products.  Tectum offers many solutions for cementitious/wood roof decks.  This is also a GREEN PRODUCT produced from sustainable raw materials.  If you need a structural Tectum product binder update, please give ConDeck Corporation a call.
